Seaborn Poet Obituary

Seaborn Gustavus Jones, 71, of 6421 Columbus Road, died Friday, October 3, 2014. Funeral services will be at 2:00PM on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Hart’s at the Cupola. The family will greet friends following the service.

Mr. Jones was born in and lived most of his life in Macon. He was educated in Macon public schools and attended Mercer University. A veteran of the United States Marines, he was Lighting and Technical Director for the Mr. Rogers Show, a certified zookeeper, and a teacher of poetry in Macon and San Francisco.

Seaborn Jones published books of poetry, which include Drowning From the Inside Out, Lost Keys, X-Ray Movies, Black Champagne, Getaway Car in Reverse, and his most recent book, Going Farther into the Woods than the Woods Go, published in 2012, was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in poetry. Honors include the Georgia Author of the Year Award in poetry, the Violet Reed Haas Poetry Award, and selection as a Broadleaf Scholar.
