Focus Magazine

Recently I found a site dedicated to the City College of San Francisco literary magazine, Focus, where I was first published.

“Established in 1937, Forum Magazine is a student-run journal that serves the City College of San Francisco community. Dedicated to providing a platform for the contemporary, urban voices of our institution, Forum collects, edits and publishes quality works of literature and the visual arts as produced by the CCSF family—publication is open to any who have ever been involved with the school, whether as a student, educator or employee.”

“During the 1970s, Forum was renamed with individualized titles: Reality Trip (1973), Double Mirage (1975), & other lovely insects (1976), and Undertow (1977, 1978). In Double Mirage (1975) visual art was creatively incorporated with decoratively drawn frames, hand-drawn typeface, and full-page sketches accompanying text. Student editors have fiddled with Forum‘s style for decades, building a legacy of unique perspectives.”

I was an editor and contributor for Forum Magazine in 1975, one of the years that had individualize titles, that year it was “Double Mirage” named after my poem.

It was an honor to be among so many creative minds, to be part of the roundtable poetry readings under the direction of H. Brown Miller.

The open book in front is "Double Mirage"
